Edmonds can Design, fabricate or manufacture, supply and install Fascia Signs for shopfronts, factories, offices and all types of commercial property. A Fascia Sign in its simplest form would be comprised of Foam PVC or acrylic panels, either screwed to an existing surface, or fitted within an attractive aluminium extrusion. Aluminium extrusions can be supplied powder coated in a choice of colours, and are designed to allow simple removal of the panels. A more common type of Fascia Sign is an illuminated signbox, with opal white or coloured acrylic panels. This type of sign allows more scope for creative and eye-catching graphics, whilst providing 24hr advertising for your business. Flexible Face signs are similar to illuminated sign boxes but instead of acrylic, the face material is a special translucent flexible PVC. This type of sign can have a combination of digitally printed and vinyl graphics for outstanding effects.

1. Aluminium composite signs:

Aluminium composite signs are the modern way to manufacture quality signs. With aluminium composite sign materials all kinds of stylish sign designs are possible- without the need for intrusive frameworks and casing being visible. Aluminium composite signs are made from a specially designed material which is lightweight, extremely strong and durable, but which does not expand/contract in variable temperatures. Additionally these signs can be produced to be illuminated using conventional computer controlled CNC routing processes to cut out letter shapes or logo designs. To finish the illuminated aluminium composite sign, if required, Perspex letters can be fabricated to fit over the cut out's in the aluminium composite sign panels.

Folded composite sign panels. One of the prime advantages of aluminium composite signs is the capability of the material to be machined in such a way as to be folded into a sign tray shape. The aesthetic look of folded composite sign panels is very appealing as there are no visible frames or supporting caseworks to be seen. Aluminium signs have a number of very important advantages when compared to other, more traditional types of signage. Hence their suitability in the commercial and high street retail environments.

  • Strength - Metal based panels are much stronger than plastics- either PVC or perspex. As the panels are formed from a single piece of material there are no inherent weak spots to fail in the future.
  • Durability - This type of sign is VERY durable. Unlike systems which use plastic panels the sign it's self is very strong and will resist accidental and malicious damage.
  • Expansion - Plastic sign panels expand and contract in ambient temperatures. Aluminium signs are virtually non expanding. This means long signs can be built without the worry of gapping occurring later
  • Size - Aluminium signs are ideal for very deep or long signs. Other systems which use plastic panels are prone to "blow outs". Aluminium signs get round this problem by their inherent design benefits. As aluminium sign panels do not contract they can be securely anchored to the supporting frame. For larger signage projects sign, Edmonds would recommend using aluminium sign system because of the additional safety with no compromise in additional cost.
  • Cost – Aluminium signage solutions are very cost effective.

2. Frame Based Signs:

Sign frames allow you to deploy a professional looking sign at an affordable price. Whilst sign frames are a fairly old solution to shop signage they are still very popular as they can achieve a professional look on a limited budget.

Frame Based Signs, UK

What is a sign frame?
A sign frame is an aluminium extrusion cut like a picture frame- with 45 degree mitre joints at each corner. A common miss-conception is that a sign frame merely covers the main fixings used to attach the display panels to the building. This is not the case. The extrusion used to make Sign frames is specially shaped with hidden internal ridges and rails. The  purpose of a sign frame is to support and secure the display panels without fixing them directly to the building.

Why not just screw the sign panels into place?
A lot of sign panels are made from plastic which expands and contracts depending on the temperature. If you screw a large, fairly thin set of plastic sign panels directly to a building they will ripple and bow. This must be avoided as a buckled, warped sign is making the wrong impression and you would be better off having no sign at all. Sign frame based signs can be enhanced by using raised Perspex letters, 3D Perspex letters along with various lighting options.

3. Flexible Faced Signage:

Flexible faces signage is the safest and most affordable way to create large signage and are used by all the leading UK retailers. Flexible faced signage is a safe system that uses no heavy plastic or metal panels- instead flexible faced signs use a specially designed soft plastic fabric for the display surface.

Flexible Faced Signage, UK

How a flexibly faced signage system works.
The basic principle behind a flexibly faced signage case is to use a reinforced PVC fabric held under tension to deliver the smooth flat display surface needed. Flexibly faced signage cases differ slightly from standard sign cases which use Perspex panels. The most obvious difference of a flexibly faced signage case is the greater depth. This is used to house the tensioning system which is all important. If the tension of a flexiface sign is not just right the surface will flap loosely or pucker leaving an unsightly finish.

What a flexibly faced sign will allow you to do:

  • A flexibly faced sign will allow you to have a very long sign with no visible joins. Unlike Perspex panel lightboxes the flexibly faced sign system uses material which is made upto 150m long in a single piece. Perspex and other panel materials are only available up to 3m in length, to create a long sign you need lots of panels which adds weight and expense.
  • With flexiface signs in general you get a product which is a lot easier to install and maintain across a long length.
  • Flexibly faced signs are also idea for very deep signs. With Perspex panel signs it is not recommended that you make a sign much deeper than 1.2m. The weight of the Perspex plus the flexible nature of the material mean that larger sign depths are vulnerable to high winds with panels susceptible to blow outs.
  • With flexibly faced signage the only limit to the depth of your sign is the width of the flexible material- the widest we supply is 5m. This means it is possible to have a 5m deep illuminated sign.
